The Tentative Plan

Filed under: Bucket List / Life / Skateboarding / Trip Planning By:

Since I’m practicing the art of not planning for this upcoming RTW trip I haven’t yet decided where exactly I’m going to go. However, I have a rough idea of where I think I want to go come January. First off, I want to take a road trip through the United States to see some of the things I haven’t seen yet and to skate the best skate parks it has to offer. I’ll go from Texas to California to Vancouver, Canada and somewhere in between hit Colorado and Salt Lake City which aren’t exactly on the way.  I’ve found that Chris Guillebeau is going to have the World Domination Summit in Portland, Oregon and if things work out I’ll hit up that conference. Then in the summer the TBEX 11 conference is going to be in Vancouver, Canada which I’ll hit up as well.

I haven’t planned anything from where I’m going to stay, what parks I’m hitting, or even what cities I’ll be going to. I’m just going to take it day by day as I travel around.

After I’m done with my USA tour I’ll head back to Houston for a few weeks and then… Wherever the wind blows me. Right now, I’m thinking it’s going to be

1. Central America – to finish up my Spanish studies and get fully fluent.

2. France – To visit my nephews, tour around Europe, and learn French.

3. Asia – It’s calling my name.

Hey Jenny, Sounds like a great list. Plans are over rated when it comes to travel. I think we should plan to take certain things and perhaps see certain people but after that you just gotta go with it.

Yup. When I did 5-months through South America, I found that having a plan really hindered my experience in some ways. One I was rushed to see everything that I had already set my heart on seeing, and two I moved too fast that I didn’t really get to experience all that each place had to offer. I’d rather just go out with a general idea, but no set plans on what I want to see or do.

    Thanks for visiting! :)

Go to the Southeast! Make a stop by Charleston and Savannah (my hometown) if you can. Nothing like ‘em in the US of A.

Southeast Asia – GO. SOOOO cheap and beautiful.

I really want to go to South East Asia. I really had myself set on Central America to get my Spanish fluent, but I’m so excited about SEA that I want to skip it altogether. I dunno. I’m just gonna see how things go on my road trip and where I want to go from there in that moment.

I’ve been to both Central America and Southeast Asia. Both are great places to see and provide different experiences. In my opinion, if I could only visit one of those two places it would easily be Southeast Asia. If becoming fluent in Spanish is important to you than Central America would be perfect for that (there are lots of Spanish speaking classes there).

Hi Jenny…I have been reading and looking for your tentative plan :) I came across your name on MummyT’s blog. I think it’s brave and wonderful, what you’re doing. I empathise with your dog dilemma, I have a cat I have to leave behind for a year. Luckily he get’s to stay at home, but with 3 nutty new cats and a large Rottweiler.

I’ll be checking back to see how it’s all going.
    Cheers!

Australia isn’t too far away from Asia, if you are in that part of the world, and it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. No lie. Maybe it can be the next stop after?

I’ve always wanted to go to Australia, it’s just I’ve been in no rush to get there. I doubt it will change anytime soon unlike some other developing countries of the world.

Hmm, I’m mighty confused: maybe I have you confused with Jack & Jill or whatever hell I don’t know anymore. But I thought you were going to S.A. or C.A. or something this spring and were going to go to Colorado as a side trip?

Well a train would be AWESOME! And if you come to my neck of the woods, it would be AWESOME to meet you :) .

I will be going to Portland this spring, not sure when as I’ve got a few friends & family to visit up there :) . Let me know if you need anything on this side of the country.

Most of all HAVE FUN because you will! Oh one advice, there is a skate park next to Fred Meyers in Roseburg I think, no its not the best its just a small park where the kiddies hang out so I don’t know if that’s your thing but if you needed a break to stop there’s that.

Somehow I found your blog and going to follow :) I hope to meet you and hear about your adventures at the World Domination Summit in June! I’m also planning on hitting China at least at the end of the year. SE Asia and who knows what else in 2012.
